Evening all.

Do you guys know the cheapest and easiest way to register a ltd company, I'm setting up a small company to sell equine epuipment on ebay, having a simple website etc. Never done it before.

Use an accountant. Cost more, but it’s a must to get everything right.

Why do you need to operate through a limited company?

I thought that'd be the norm. I want to sell stuff on an ongoing basis, have a website, ebay shop etc, so setting up a ltd company would be the right thing to do. So I don't get prosecuted for tax evasion and all that!!

You wouldn't be prosecuted assuming you recorded everything properly as a sole trader.

Have a read on the Business Link type government sites as to the basics of company structures, and check which suits you best.

Trading as an individual is totally legitimate and many, many people prefer to operate this way. I am an accountnat and over 50% of my clients are sole traders rather than limited companies.

For very small operators, the added complexity of having to prepare corporate accounts, complete Corporation Tax returns and the submission of accounts and returns to both HM Revenue and Customs and Companies House is simply not worth it.

Think VERY carefully before you decide which route to go down.
