Please can anyone help i have a Chimaera that does not always want to be locked. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes the key will not even turn, and i have to stand there trial and error until she opens, or even lock it?,.,,any ideas,,,or little things to try.Much appreciated,,as i look suspicious hovering around the lock of my own car!!!

Do you not lock it by setting the alarm?

Early Chimaeras did have a key hole on the button to the aft of the doors but I believe they were usually locked remotely via the alarm.

Sounds like a mechanical problem with the lock bit. I think the alarm side of things is handled by a micro switch on the lock assembly. If the key does not "work" it must be a mechanical problem, the microswitch/alarm side of things could be tested separately.

Should a 1993 Chimaera lock via a zapper or just by the key?

All Chimaeras came with std fit alarm system. Early models (with key) could be armed by key turning technique as shown in handbook. Remote c/l and arming was available as upgrade. Later models without key just have blipper.

Try copious amounts of WD40 in the lock and give a good wiggle about. Sure seems a mechanical/lock problem IMHO.

I had a 94 Chimaera with exactly the same fault. One attempt to fix it failed and I eventually had it wired with a remote plipper that bypassed all the manual lock turning business and set the central locking and the alarm. Cost £180 .... money well spent.
