Hi all. My 1992 pre cat has 65000 miles on the clock. I have had her for a few months now. I have noticed recently that I am not getting as many miles per litre of oil as I was before. I have changed to Mobil 1 15/40 from the oil the previous guy was using (castrol). I reakon I am getting less than 1000 miles per litre. Is that normal? Also yesterday (worries about replies at this stage) having been cruising in a line of slow moving traffic for about ten miles where she was ticking along fine, I overtook, floored it and saw a puff of dark smoke out of the rear whilst under pressure. I didnt notice it again during the journey. Must I worry?

Dark smoke is normally unburnt petrol, bluey/white smoke tends to be the oil. IMHO.

Try cleaning the breather system. This can deposit oil into the throttle which gives the smoke when it is burnt.
