The guy who hit him was also given the same penalty. That was Rosberg.
It's unfortunate, but a collision in the pit lane is damn dangerous. Having an avoidable one is cause for punishment, so I think the penalty is valid.
Have we not seen similar penalties applied in the past for avoidable pit lane incidents?
It's a shame too, he was pretty much guaranteed a win or some decent points.

Indeed, and while there are all sorts of things which could have helped to avoid it, like a clear call from the pit wall, it's just like the classic rear-ending you see on roundabouts so many times - "Sorry mate, I didn't see you - I thought you'd gone !!"It's also a double whammy of a penalty. He'll have to get into Q3, and to minimise the damage you'd expect him to run light so, in effect, he ends up 11th on the grid at the start. In front of him will be a car which didn't make Q3 and hence has a lot more options on terms of strategy and he'll have to nail that car and several others in front if he's to stand any chance of getting a decent result.
Isn't the French GP often a race which features 2 or 3 stop strategies as being commonplace ? If so, then the top few cars might also be running relatively light on a 3 stop strategy so even 11th on the grid could be tricky !!
What made me laugh was before the race he was chatting about his Father's incident last week at 30 mph....and how can anybody have such an accident going so slowly...well just look at what Lewis did this PM. He should know the pit lane stop light rules and if not somebody on the pratts perch should have told him during the pit stop to wait for the pace car....DOH!

The two cars in front of Lewis had not almost hit! They were side by side and waiting for the red light to change to green. Have you ever seen traffic lights before? Red means stop!!
Rosberg has also been punished. Both he and Lewis should be lucky that;s all they got - a few years ago and it might have been a race ban. That was bloody stupid of both guys and considering these guys are getting paid millions of pounds, you'd think they would know the rules of the sport.
To be honest the biggest shock of the race I was watching today is the fact Kimi didn't punch or headbutt Lewis - I was so expecting it as I would have been fuming myself under the circumstances.
The other person who should have been punched was The Cock. He kept reminding viewers who'd maybe missed the incident that Lewis and Kimi hit each other in the Pits.

Yes, I was expecting a Piquet vs Salazar moment. Obviously Kimi wasn't happy, but he took it quite calmly. He just pointed at the lights when walking past Hamilton and gave him a slap in the back, like he was just joking around. 
I'm not much of a Kimi supporter, but it was well handled.
"Mangy Horse" is hard to overtake, so the penalty is a sore one.

I must admit to reading it slightly differently. I thought it showed anger on Kimi's behalf. Strange really when he admitted to making the mistake that took Sutil out at Monaco.Unlike you, I quite like Kimi but his post race comments in the press are a bit sour grapes. It was an accident. Let it go.
Kimi rear ended Sutil during a race. Lewis rear ended Kimi because Kimi was stopped at the red light and Lewis just plain didn't stop, it would appear to be two different things.

Good to see the rookie making a few mistakes. maybe the media will stop putting him on such a high pedestall for him to fall off of, hes still a newbie. And the 10 place penalty is justified he caused a 3 car pile up in the pits, a bit different to causing one out on track, and maybe cost Ferrari the race they had after all overtaken Lewis in the pit lane.
