Hi guys, first up new to the forum, so hello!

I have recently bought an E36 328 Coupe - no rear spoiler!

It’s in fantastic condition, but the black bumper inserts are faded, a small thing but annoying, does anybody know where I can get replacements?

The other thing is I am thinking of changing the suspension, as it rolls more than I would like when pushing on, any ideas where to start?

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome smile

The pastic bumper inserts can be bought from BMW, but I suspect you will be bent over on price - maybe better to try a specialist breaker like FAB or Quarry. Failing that, you may strike lucky in a breakers yard that has E36's with "blacker" bumper inserts than yours?

Re: Suspension, I would look at upgrading your anti-roll bars with something like H&R or Eibach. If you leave the rest of the suspension standard though, you may induce more understeer with thicker ARB's.
I would first check that all bushes are inspected and changed if necessary, then start looking at the numerous supsension options that are available!

Populae aftermarket BMW parts are Bilstein, Eibach, H&R and KW. Very good quality stuff and I am sure you would find something to suit your requirements.

Sounds like I had better do more than replace the anti-roll bars the last thing I want is understeer, that would really spoil the fun!

For £500 how far can I get improving things with the various options?

Bumper inserts are surprisingly cheap from BMW so I would price them up first. I would fit new poly bushes to the front suspension arms and an aftermarket suspension kit with lower/stiffer springs will reduce the roll on their own.

Loads to choose from but I would go for a well known brand and get springs and shocks from the same manufacturer, preferably in the same kit.

Thought that might be the case on the suspension - I shall wait a month or so and put the necessary funds to one side to get the whole works done.

By the way that is one of the nicest E36's I have seen - I have seen a lot around recently with some very dubious modifications (chrome alloys spring the mind!!) good to see one done properly!!

-or a cheaper option on the suspension that is still good is a Bilstein B12 kit (comes with the Eibach springs).

Firms up the ride, but not in a harsh way - really tightens things up & reduces roll considerably - only starts to feel like it could do with another 10% stiffness when pressing on at 90+ (to me anyway), so good compromise for road use.

Before you replace the trim, have you tried using something like Autoglym Bumper Black on it? Brought the trim on mine up pretty well.

As caboosemoose says - check the dealers, i think you'll be surprised how cheap they are.

I've just replaced them on my early E46 - they were £40 for the three at the back, and £38 for the three at the front. Door/wing mouldings were a whole £9 a side.

Thanks for the advice chaps - one more question, what sort of oil would you recommend for the M52 engine?
