Z4 roof - mechanism piece broken
Discussion
Dear All,
the other week when taking the roof down, i heard a crack, and closer inpsection revealed this piece of the roof mechanism on the passengar side that had snapped and almost fallen off -
It had snapped on the left side of the piccie. The roof still seems to work fine, so just wondered what this part is and what purpose it serves? Should i replace asap or wait until the car is next in for it's service?
Thanks all
Greg

I had this... it's just a small piece which is there to stop little children putting there hands in when the roof is folding down, as two metal piece close on each other like scissors. It was actually the cause of the rattle I was experiencing so I removed it from the other side.
Hope we're talking about the same part.

Sounds like we are, as there is a similiar piece on the other side. I could not work out what mechanical function this piece of plastic actually does. May just get it replaced next time it is in the garage then

Yeah that's it... wouldn't bother replacing it. It'll just rattle at some point anyway. Get a set of pliers to the other side and remove it.... better than it breaking and getting caught up potentially piercing the roof as it folds down. g
