As some may know, I moved out to the far East 6 months ago.

Had my heart set on an E46 M3, but where I live theres no diagnostics facility at all, and no "proper" BMW servicing facility. Just regular mechanics who can do oil changes etc. ANything more you have to get the car sent to another country.

My heart says just go get one anyway, head says no way.

If I dont get an M3 car then the only other performance options are cars like Scoobys, Evo's and RX8's.

I dont lust after either of the above, but lust after an E46 M3.

Any suggestions/advice much appreciated

Depends how competent with a pair of spanners you are I suppose.

You can buy the diagnostics kits that plug into laptops from eBay, and where you are, they'll probably come via local postwink

As long as its had all the recalls done, and its a sound car, brakes, oil and bushes, basically general wear and tear items can all be done by someone whos average with tools and owns a good manual (Bentley series)

Thanks. I am going to look on ebay to see how much these diagnostics machines are, not an arm and leg I am hoping smile

I am not the most competent with spanners, changing a tyre and spark plugs, and perhaps oil on my old Fiesta is as far as it goes.

Oh forgot to mention another thing. Most the E46 M3's here are imported from Japan, and dont come with any history (for some reason people here dont really seem to care about any form of service history), but I guess if I can trace the cars history, and everythings been done recall wise, shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I just know I'd love an M3 so much more than a Scooby

HI Patrick

Which one in particular did you buy?

What are they like to use? Is it just as simple as plug it into your car and it comes up with an error code and tells you whats wrong?

Cheers

What is spare parts availability going to be like?

There is an official BMW dealer a short flight away from here, but I dont know if the dealers keep parts in stock or if they themselves have to order them in from somewhere like the UK or USA.

Spare parts is also another concern of mine, but if E46 M3's dont often need new parts, then I may, MAY just be willing to take my chances
