Anyone had this problem before:

When I come to de-activate the alarm it goes off so the only way I could drive it was to unplug the siren and let the internal battery run down.

Everything else seems OK ie the sensors trigger the hazard lights, but at the moment no alarm.

contacted local Main Dealer was told it would need a whole new alarm system at £550 is he taking the mick because looking through past threads I've noticed people have just replaced the black box for about £80. Is this likely to solve my problem?

Its a 98 4.0 Chimaera

The problem is that there are no spares around for the control box. If this is duff then the whole system has to be replaced. £550 is a bit steep but it depends on which system they have quoted for.

Had a similar problem with my 98 (Meta). Fault was water logged siren, which is a common problem. Replaced the siren (the other way round!!) and sorted

Ditto, knackered siren. It used to go off when I armed the car! Replaced siren (approx £70) - all OK.

Also got problems with mine and have just realised that the siren is completely missing!!? All other alarm features seem to work BUt does this mean that when I connect a new siren (if I can find one anywhere - please help) it's just going to blast off?!

ktg - not necessarily. I ran mine for a while with no siren until it arrived. Then just pluged it in.

Thanks Roger. Looks like I may be able to get it sorted tomorrow - there's hope yet!

Try your friendly dealer first!

I assume it's a META, then try Carl Baker 0772-0723407 (that's where I got mine).
