Hi Just wondered if there is any point to going through certification to do Netwrok installation (We mainly do CAT5, no fibre optic)

If it is worth while where can i get information so that my staff can go through this training

We have been installing networks for a while an had no real problems and no complaints regarding the installations we do so is there a point to it.

Are any of your customers asking if you are certified?

Only one so far, we said no and he still gave us the work as we were significantly cheaper than the others

is there a bonus if you are (workwise)
or is it just get on with it and "dont fix it if aint broke"

Benefit of certification tends to come when your bidding for work with big corporates.

Depends, are you dealing with big companies that have technical (real technical, not can manage to load up IE without having to ask the IT staff 20 questions) managers asking if you have certifications?

If you're dealing with small/medium businesses and home customers, i wouldn't say it's worth it unless your staff can easily pass with little or no extra training. And then it's only for advertisement (* certified etc) but if you're already doing good business, why bother?

On the bad side, this could lead to staff problems. If you pay for their training, you've given them a qualification out of your pocket, they could ask for more money or go elsewhere with their new improved CV.

Although I have never needed thus far to produce a Certificate of Compliance, we did go an get approved, IT WAS FREE, on the basis that you would use that manufacturers equipment [which we don`t always do] the major advantage is that the manufacturers will offer YOUR client a 10 or 30 year product guarantee, which just may give you the edge over the competitors

Thanks MATE

Many pros & conns to this issue. It really depends on how serious you are.

The first thing to do is have a look at what the courses actually offer. Just to get a bit of discount and a certificate is not the sort of course I would look at.

Some can be very helpfull and actually teach you some thing. I did one after 12-years on the tools and learnt loads ..... I have been on, and sent others on courses that were a real waste of time.

As for the accredited aspect. Yes, you do generally get better prices! You can then offer the compliance warranties! And you get a loverly certificate to mount in your office!

Seriously though. They are worth doing in the right circimstances. Getting AI status with some of the high end manufactures can open doors. You need to be doing some big turn over to get worth while help though. As a minimum though, your guys will learn plenty on the right courses. Just pick the right one!

Good luck
