Have an assignment to complete on VPNs, anyone got any sources/links for getting fundamental information and where issues are discussed? Websites, articles, good text books et cetera?

Won't be plagiarising anything - get your hands cut off for that sort of thing in the OU

A quick Google for the IPSEC FAQ looks helpful. You could also look for info about Shiva VPN & FreeSWAN ...

Have a look at the Microsoft and Symantec websites regarding the VPN products that they offer (ISA Server for MS and those firewall appliances for Symantec). They really do go into some easy to understand (for once, right?) documentation regarding VPN's

most new Firewall appliances, and some Routers have built in VPN functionality, these provide a fairly robust solution.

You can also buy dedicated VPN appliances, these are additional units connected to the network, that will allow remote users / teleworkers to access the network.
