Just returned from a 2 1/2 week holiday in Scotland with the Tamora - 2000 miles in total. She behaved like a dream - absolutely no problems at all, so it does happen! She didn't grumble much at some of the roads we took her on either (hundreds of miles of single track road), but the front splitter did ground a couple of times......

However, a couple of unfortunate issues:

i) first night at Port Appin (near Oban), a scrote stole the nice shiny valve caps - there was a thread on this issue a while ago. Beware!

ii) on Monday one of our cousins from California driving a hired Mondeo towards us hit the kerb, both nearside hubcaps came flying off, one of which hit the Tamora full on the nose. Paintwork damaged - bugger. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.... Off to the factory on Monday.....

There was also a thread recently on the availability of Optimax in Scotland - I think the only Shell station that does Optimax north of Glasgow/Edinburgh is at Nairn, near Inverness. Shell stations at Portree (Skye) and Ullapool have super unleaded - I didn't see any other Shell stations that sold super unleaded or Optimax. So large quantities of regular unleaded were used up!

Bit of a coincidence but I just spent the bank holiday weekend in Scotland in my Tamora - 1400 miles and also no problem whatsoever. Even managed nearly 30mpg on one leg up the M6.

Has to be said that the roads in Scotland, especially once you get an hour + north of Glasgow are simply fantastic. And the scenery is amazing - led to a few magazine style photo shoots (of the car) being done.

Optimax is rare. There were a few other places north of Glasgow - one near Perth and one in Aberfeldy but not much else.

I was a bit disappointed that I didn't see any other TVR's whilst I was up there. Did get plenty of appreciaive looks and questions about the car so I guess they don't see that many of them. But they do like them; I took my parents' local butcher out for a spin and got a couple of free steaks for my trouble. Fantastic !

Cheers,

Iain

Scotland really is great. Did a two weeker there in my Porsche....and just so's you'll be amused I had more car trouble than you did...two blinkin' burst tyres from a pothole on the A82....what a bastard.

Check out the magazine style photo on my profile...

Optimax is more widely available than that guys. Maybe you were not in Fife but it certainly is available. I agree we dont have that a great amount of TVR's up here though unfortunately.

hey guys

I live in Caithness, near John O'Groats at the very top end of Scotland - and am the proud owener of a new T350C. Anybody that ventures up this far is welcome to give me a call for a chat!! [number is in the phone book]. I haven't managed to find a service station that supplies Optimax north of Inverness.

Shame we didn't know that, Colin - we went to the Castle of Mey one day when we were staying at Dornoch - nice roads for a Tiv!

Julian,

Yellow Tamora? Think I passed you on the Ullapool/Achiltibuie road, just by Stac Pollaidh.

I actually passed you on the A9 outside Dornoch. I was heading in the opposite direction [in a PUG 106, not the 350.....]- the Tamora looks a N-I-C-E motor by the way !!

Must have been us - there weren't many other Tivs around! We went for lunch at the Summer Isles Hotel and bought some things from the Smokehouse. I hope you weren't in a Tiv - if you were, I apologise for not acknowledging you!

Thanks for the compliment - IMO the colour is fabulous, but with a layer of dust on her she doesn't look quite the same! I assume we were north of Dornoch when you saw us, so we would have been on the way to or oming back from the Castle of Mey. Great part of the world!
