Choicest engine for mk2 Focus?
Discussion
I'm sure that ages ago someone told me that the best engine for the Mk1 focus was the 1.6 petrol (zetec I guess - although Zetec is now a trim level )...
...so as it's not for me to drive, what's the consensus on engine choice for a mk2 Focus - economy/drivability - probably petrol as I don't think that the diesel premium is worthwhile (unless someone wants to try to convince me otherwise).

Hmmm, like the idea of the V8 - and as TG showed us, V8s can be quite economical too...
...let me talk to the wife and see what she says!

OH, and BMZ - when you say that the power was upped from the 1.6 in the new Focus, do you mean the mk2 new Focus or the mk3 new Focus?

Sorry Doc, some people call the new shape focus the Mk2, when really I think it is the mk3. The Mk2 is the facelift model launched in 2002 I believe. Ta, CH
It is the latest new shape focus which has the 115bhp. My 2002 facelift model has 100bhp.
Sorry for any confusion!
Dr Bob, the 1.6 (115ps) engine is no longer available on the focus. Its just the 100ps now. It was available in the Mrk 3(2005 onwards) but has been o fthe range for a while now. The 1.6 VCT 115 has that bit more torque lower down and was said to be better on the fuel, but the 100ps isnt too bad though.

we had a 1.6 focus at work recently, it was so gutless it was....well just horrible, (no offence to anyone with one)
But we do have the latest shape in 2.0 TDCi 130PS for quite some time,
and quite frankly, its a hoot to drive, its big and weighs a tonne yes but the diesel torque is a laugh,
saying that im getting a bit bored with the either on or off attitude of the diesel around town which can get a bit jerky, although when you want a hoon, it can be fairly rapid,
it returns 45mpg quite happy at 100+
and the best bit of all:
it has put up with 50,000 miles of sheer abuse, and i mean just painful bdness of being a pool vehicle at work, no mechanical faults what so ever
