Eyup,

After having the back of the car remodelled in Le Mans rolleyes I got hold of a set of clear rear lights from CliveF (ta mate)

Now I thought there were 2 types of lights for our cars - clear and smoked. But these clear ones from Clive are similar but different to the ones on my car. I fired this information off to BB who tells me there might also be a set used which had none of the numbers/boxes/codes embossed on them - a smooth version if you like.

Here are the two light units I'm on about. My old 'orange' version and Clives 'clear' version

The missing bit on mine - the brake light - was the same as the other unit btw.

And these two types of unit have different codes embossed on them
Orange - V136 AR & V136 AL
Clear - V136 JR & V136 JL

This intrigues me and out of curiosity I'd like to know how many different versions of these lights are actually out there.

So guys, what have you got?

I have this set as well as spare if I ever want to change mine back to standard smile there smoked and the GSI ones. The clear ones are non Gsi ones. I have heard of some that have no writing on them...Aftermarket maybe?

This could also be the differnce, is the 88-92 range different to the 92-95 range?

1988–1992 range

* Base (1.4, 1.6 petrol)
* L (1.4, 1.6, 1.6i, 1.8, 1.8i, 2.0i petrol, 1.7 diesel, 1.7 turbodiesel)
* GL (1.6, 1.6i, 1.8, 1.8i, 2.0i petrol, 1.7 diesel, 1.7 turbodiesel)
* CD (2.0i petrol)
* SRi (2.0i petrol)
* GSi (2.0i 16v petrol)

You can also remove the orange from the clear ones, then use orange flashing bulb. Looks better i think.

Yes. TVR used the 88 - 92 GSi lamps. In '92 Vauxhall facelifted the Cavalier including new back lights that including a black plastic moulding as part of the lens.

There's a few Griffs about with the 'standard' Cavalier lights. Maybe they've been repaired and the bodyshop couldn't get hold of 'originals'? Or maybe TVR fitted them new on some cars?
