We've been to the Great Dorset Steam Fair this weekend, and now have a part-time speedo. Anybody know where the sender unit is located as I suspect this may be either dust-infected, loose, or a combination of the two.

Also, whilst checking the fuse-box ('cos the bible says so), I noticed that there was no fuse in the heater slot. Anybosy know why?

We've had the Griff a week now, so are only just finding our way around it.

Not sure about the speedo but the heater control I've had a bit of experience. I take it none of the controls are working aprt from windows and alarm on the centre console. When I bought mine the fuse was blown. I replaced it and immediately got a smell of electrical burning, this was due to one of the pots moving behind the control panel and shorting itself. Mine is disconnected at the moment too as I get a strange clunking noise from one of the motors, I'm waiting on a few bits and then hopefully finally get it going.

Have you tried putting a fuse in it?

Sensor should be by the diff under the car. Photo in the bible.

on a similar note, is that the sensor that drops the revs once the car comes to a stop? mine seems to do it on an occasional basis

The sensor/speedo output is connected to the ECU so that it knows when the car should idle or if the driver is lifting off. If this signal is not there, the ECU can become confused. It's only got a lickle brain.

I have a 96 Griff and my speedo went awol recently too, I had the sensor checked for adjustment/clag etc, but it was a faulty unit. They can be tricky to get hold of but Christopher Neil TVR have some on the shelf (or did 3 weeks or so ago when I needed one)

The sensor on my car is on top of the diff and is a real b*gger to get at unless you have a ramp.

Yes, that's where mine is too. The speedo's been woking again this morning, and went on the blink again coming down our street.

Blink!

You could try changing the sensor but the problem might lie with the speedo if you're unlucky. It could just be adjustment (gap between sensor and castellated nut type thingy on the propshaft?), or dirt/oil/gunk fouling things up. If it isnt gap or gunk and if the odometer and speedo are both not working I think it points to sensor fault.

Speedo seems to be working ok now (touch wood). Mark at David Gerald laid his magic screwdriver on it, and lo! there was a moving needle!

Speedo wouldn't work when cold, so trundled back today for a new sensor. So far, so good, damn fine chaps.
