HI

I bought a Vpgue 3.0 deisel a couple of weeks ago and all was well for a few days. I then left it standing for about 2 days and when I went back to it it wouldnt start. All I got was a click from the starter.

I attached a trickle charger to it for a couple of days and all semmed ok. I got it started, drove it for a few miles and left it again. The following morning I jumped in and moved it forward a few feet so that I could open the boot and load it up. Once I did this I hopped back in again and it woldnt start. I tried to jump start it to no avail and have had it on trickle charge for 3 days with nothing this morning. Is it likely that the battery is dead? or is there something Im unaware of that could be draining the battery. I have left it unlocked while charging to avoid the alarm draining the system.

I have also noticed that the battery is quite tightly hidden away under the bonnet, any tips for getting it out and the new one in?

Thanks in advance

O

Changing the battery isnt a major problem. Before doing this get a local auto electrician to check that everything is shutting down correctly.

They have something like 13 computers that need to chut down after ignition is turned off, and maybe one of these isnt working correctly.

Mine had an issue with the interior lights staying on. Found that the boot wasnt shutting correctly so it kept lights on and flattened battery.

When jumping make sure you do not connect to batttery. Connect to the positive terminal on the bulkhead (under a square cap). The battery has a BMW fuse that is a killer if blown.

Ranger Rovers are very particular about getting enough voltage. If you get any other spurious errors then that's another clue. New battery will solve it.
There was a man who had an old model P38 range rover, replaced the gearbox after lots of errors from the computer. Turned out it was a combination of a duff battery and a dodgy earth connection.

There was a thread about removing the battery over here:

http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2...

I've never taken mine out but I have removed, or rather loosened, the plastic trim under the front screen for another job, which I think would give the battery enough room to come out with a bit of a fiddle. The trim is just secured with plastic push in clips, be careful not to break them.

Thanks for the feeback chaps.

turns out its simply an old battery thats given up the ghost. according to the specialist that servicing it at present these new batteries dont give up slowly like the old lead acid ones. apparantly they just stop, no signs.

anyway new battery fitted and system tested, all should be OK.

thanks again.
