Hi chaps, do any of you do contra deals in your current job? I have been asked to present some ideas for potential contra deals for an event.

Most of the ideas I have revolve around offering contra advertising e.g. Your company insert in the show goody bag in return for letting us, the show organisers, place a banner ad on your relevant website/leaflets for the show in your retail outlet.

Am I massively missing a trick? A lot of contra deals it seems hard to work out win-win situations, someone always appears to be worse off out of the deal. Any tips?

Let say for example that the show was related to weddings, what kind of deals would you do?

Well, you'd put my advert (leaflet) in your goody bag and I'd put your advert (banner) on my website. It's not really a contra-deal, no money is involved, just mutual backscratching.

Contra deals only work if both parties would each pay for the services provided by the other and each of those services has the same value.

Barter Card offer this service in a professional capacity and it does have some advantages but is difficult to manage and keep track of.

I need to write a contra letter for a customer to sign, so just in case the worst happens, we're not left with bills to pay.
Does anyone have any experience in writing something like this, as it's not one I want to get wrong!
