Has anyone fitted a towbar to a 135i even though you can't get one from BMW?

I fitted a Towsure towbar on my 120d. It says it fits all one series models. It was fairly simple to fit and only required a small window to be cut in the underside of the bumper which obviously can't be seen. The only issue I could possibly see is the size of the rear exhaust box on the 130i, but thinking about it, the main towbar bracket is just a heavy duty bumper mounting so it should be OK.

I think this is a specific issue with the 135 Coupe - for all coupe models you can buy a BMW towbar except 135 so was wondering why & whether anyone has actually fitted a none BMW towbar to the 135.

You could well be correct, although when we had an M3, BMW said no towbar was available, yet a standard E36 towbar fitted. May just be a marketing thing.

This is really what I was wondering. I can't see why all the other 1 series models can tow but not the 135i. It must be the same basic car. Maybe I will just have to wait until someone does them. I might just take a look under the back when we get it & see if there's any where to attach the towbar.

It could well be the size/position of the back box. I had some trouble fitting my bike rack as there is very little space back there.

I think you need to be a bit careful if BMW doesn't list a towing figure for the car in the owner's manual. This means it hasn't been type approved for towing and it could be challenge to get someome willing to fit a bar to the car. Thank the folks in Brussels for this bit of legislation.

I did wonder if the EU had there sticky little paws in this. I can imagine how it's really dangerous to tow with this car because it's so vastly different to the 125i & 123d. I may have to look for a back street garage to do a towbar then if it becomes really necessary.
