i've had a problem over christmas which has made me abandon my car (95 chim)over the christmas holiday. driving along, the dials will all go dead, and the battery light comes on faintly, and somethimes the rev counter will show 1000 rpm at all speeds. the battery stops charging, and eventually the car splutters, and cuts out. it's none of the connections, ie chassis earth/ starter. any ideas? the problem was intermittent, but now seems pretty permanent.

have your alternator checked, that can do strange things when they are knackered

Try having a look at the fuseable link next to the starter. Vibration causes it to break.

My old dolomite sprint used to do exactly that ( sorry ) Anyway, it was a bad connection with the low-tensile wire from the dizzy to the coil. I have no idea if a chimaera has one though
