Any thoughts on Goodyear F1 Asymetric (spelling!) v's Vredestein Ultrac Setanta v's the usual suspects of PS2 or Conti sport2? The goodyear and vredestein are quite a bit cheaper than the other 2 but seem to get rave reviews in the press. I will probabaly only do another 2 trackdays so Toyo and the like are probably not suitable.
Thanks for the help....

Glad you have brought up the subject of tyres for the Z4M, I need to replace mine very soon & without going back through all the posts, I wondered what tyres get the best thumbs up for this car.

I thought that toyo's were more track biased. I know that there are t1-r or t1-s (?) but i was lead to believe that both had limited lifespans and would not last as long as the 'leading brands'. I shall find out at Goodwood tomorrow as I am sure that Toyo have a stand. The reason for singling out the others wAS that the mainstream press (autocar and evo) had not included brands such as toyo but had recommended Goodyear and Vredestein, why would this be?

I've got the PS2 usual suspects on mine...and they're great...or at least much better than the conti-sports that it came from the factory with smile

Which reminds me...I need to replace the rear ones...phoned round a few places last night...and one of the places (McConechy's) said Michelin recommend the non-star fitment PS2s because other wise the handling is adversely affected. Anyone got any idea what this non-star thing is? And how I can tell whether I have it already or not?

Cheers,
J.

My reply from Michelin re tyre fitment for a Z4M

Dear Mr xxxxxx,

We have allocated your message the reference number indicated within the title. If you need to contact us again regarding your message, we would be grateful if you could include the reference number.

The following Michelin products are homologated/accepted for fitment as original to ‘Z4 M (E85)’:

225/45 ZR 18 95Y ‘New Pilot Sport (PS2)’ Extra Load *
255/40 ZR 18 99Y ‘New Pilot Sport (PS2)’ Extra Load *

(‘*(star)’ is notation ‘BMW original’)

'New Pilot Sport (PS2)':
An asymmetric pattern design for great wet performance, without compromising in the dry.
Perfectly synchronised to the demands of the best sports cars, with unique precision.
Extremely stable pattern resists deformation whilst cornering
Supersedes the previous range 'Pilot Sport'.

However, these new products are forecast to be launched during February ’08, being presently unavailable.

Thank you for your interest in Michelin.

Yours sincerely

Thus the star means official fitment; only two tyres have the star rating PS2's and the original Conti's
