:censored: speed humps
Discussion
I've got to take The Wife to the Gym for the next three weeks, but her gym is at the end of a road with 10 speed-humps. That lot I can manage (just) by doing the very-slow-at-an-angle technique (although the Car behind me must have wondered what I was doing...), BUT right across the Gym car park entrance is a HUGE hump and I cannot get over it without severely scraping the underside of the car all the way.
I *think* there may be a few disabled spaces outside the gym which would avoid the hump - I'll check next week. The Road is no parking.
Has anyone ever raised the subject of humps to an establishment like a Gym? What's the best way to go about it? Will it do any good?

Maximum legal height on a public road for a speed hump is I believe 100mm.
On a private site ie Gym, Health Club, Golf club can as I understand it be anything they like but out of courtesy (if that's the right word )should as all public roads display a sign saying "speed humps" ahead.
My golf club put speed humps on the entrance drive which regularly ripped off exhaust systems but there was no come back against the club - sad but true.
If you previously enjoyed free passage of entrance and this has suddenly occured you may be able to challenge them if damage has been caused but I'm afraid its weak ground.

One of my customers in Leamington has got a huge speed hump made out of cobblestones right across the entrance to their car park, so I have to park the S in the street when I visit them.
As John says, if it's on private land I don't think there's anything you can do about it. If the kerbs either side of the hump aren't too high you could always try getting two wheels on the kerb which should lift the exhaust higher.
