Bit of a long shot but...

Over the last few months the central locking has been making a clicking noise, as if you are in the car and it is open and you press the unlock button, but obviously making it when i'm not pressing the button and driving along.

Any how the other day i opened the boot, with the key in the ignition, shut the door, and when i closed the boot the car locked its self, meaning i had the get my gf to give me a lift home to get the spare key.

It has no fancy alarm or immobilizer, just ford standard.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

It is a 2002 model.

Cheers

Without knowing the exact nature of the clicking, all I can say is that I appear to have had a similar problem on my Focus. A clicking noise would occasionally occur from the rear door area when I was driving along. Eventually the rear door lock solenoids packed up (first the offside than a few weeks later the nearside).

Another potential source of the probem could be a relay and water in the door loom plug may well be causing problems. You could check this quite easily by looking at the wires along the bottom of the door shut area.

Hi,

Wifes 2000 focus does the same, random noises like it is trying to lock when driving, same sound as if you tried to lock the doors when one was open sort of as if the locks started to cose then open immediatly again.

weird going ons, as a precaution, i never leave the keys in the ignition and close the door, if im working at it i always open the window, but then we only have the one door key

Cheers. i scouted about on some other websites and found a possible solution, reprogramming the key fob.

"1. Insert a key and turn it to position 2 (dashboard lights come on BUT do not start car!!!) four times in 6 seconds
2. Switch off the ignition - a tone should sound to indicate it is now possible to program keys
3. Press any button on key - a tone should sound as confirmation
4. Switch ignition to position 2 OR wait for 10 seconds to elapse after last key programming"

Quoted off a different website, i.e. im not taking any responsibility!!!!

It worked for mine and it has stopped making the noise and hasn't locked its self.
