Hi, has anybody had any experience of these, it is on a Pug 607 but I understand that they are fitted to most Pug & Citreon models. Anyhow it would appear that mine is now in need for renewal. I have been quoted upto £600 at my local Pug dealer, they have you over a barrel as it needs some fluid adding at £20 per per Ltr (5Ltr) that only the main dealer can supply and a new filter at £200 plus a diagnostic test and reset. Plus labour at £77ph and of course all plus VAT.
Has anyone had this problem and is there a way round it, can this filter be bypassed or will it mess up the electronics.
Thanks in advance for any constructive comments/suggestions.

My sister had the same type of filter thingy on her pug. Like you say its a peugeot only oil / filter and they charge a fortune. You could search for a pug specialist in your area, they may be able to do the work. As a temporary measure you can put an additive in your fuel, if you run out of the oil the car will drive very badly.

never had to replace a particulate filter on the pug diesels.

remove it, split it at the joint, then steam clean it (inside).i do quite a few taxis this way. it was a pug dealer that told us to do it this way.

you will have to have the fluid added. many independants can clear fault codes and force regeneration of the filter.

for diagnostic equipment capable of doing this you are looking for someone with either autodiagnos, autocom or bosch KTS. any Bosch car service centre should be able to do this a lot cheaper than the main dealer.

If by fluid you are talking about engine oil, than yes is is different from normal oil. You can buy it from any good oil stockist just ask if it's for engines (any make) with diesel particulate filters, may have DPF on the main label.

I think the "chemical" they refer to is urea. It might have other additives in it as well. The particulate filter needs this to regenerate itself periodically. I don't know about the 607 but my 807 is supposed to need it topping up at the 72,000 or 80,000 mile service, depending on useage, so it shouldn't be that often. The particulate filter itself is supposed to be changed at 110,00 miles and I think it's longer on the V6 diesels.

A while back, I had a problem with an 807 where it's filter wasn't regenerating itself properly. This was eventually tracked down to a faulty butterfly valve. Apparently, the filter regenerates itself pretty regularly and it's not really noticeable in normal driving. The engine management system does all sorts of things to make the exhaust run absolutely stinking hot for a few minutes so as to burn the cr4p out of the filter (not really quite sure how)! This butterfly was something to do with letting air into the exhaust system (I think) to help get the temperature up.

They need "special" engine oil but it doesn't have to be the Peugeot / Total stuff. I think any low ash / low sulphur / low phosphorous synthetic will do.
