After reading about tyres in the bible I bought a can a tyreweld/inflator at the weekend £6 and ditched the spare wheel. This has given me much more boot space and I can now fit a bag in with the roof down. I weighed the spare and it came out at 10Kg, so I recon to have gained about 2bhp/ton. Not bad for £6. I can't say as I have really noticed the difference, but it all helps.

I,m off down the gym to lighten my own chassis and perhaps gain a few more bhp/ton in the bargin.

Do you need to carry a pump round with Tyreweld or does the can actually inflate the tyre as well as sealing the puncture?

I believe it inflates the tyre. I have one problem with tyreweld type products though - what do you do when you have a blowout?

The tyre weld aerasol inflates the tyre, but is is worth checking/correcting the pressure after it has set. Tyre weld is fine for a quick fix, but make sure that you drive the car long enough after using it, or the gunk may set unevenly in the tyre, unbalancing the wheel. I prefer to keep the spare, and get the tyre fixed properly.

I've got RAC and my mobile. If it's good enough for the new model TVRs and Aston Martin it's good enough for me. It's not much use if you are in a hurry, but from what i hear a ride with the space saver can be an adventure ar speeds over 20mph, and as the blown wheel/tyre will not fit in the boot you have to put in in the passenger seat!

I'm bound to have a blow out now.....

Firstly pray!

Then try not to hit anything

Then Thank God

Then Call Automobile Club

Then sit back and wait whilst contenplating what could have happened

Also worth noting that a lot of places will NOT repair a tyre that has been tyre-welded...

Your not supposed to go over this speed using either the spacesaver or tyre weld repaired tyres.

I thought that mine was rated at 50!

As for punctures..... when ever I have had one the place tells me that it's too close to the side wall to fix and that I have to have a new one anyway. At the end of the day with a performance car maybe it's safer that way.

Also the space saver is a "use once" product that you're supposed to replace after use - they cost more than a normal tyre does - and they're only good for 50 miles or so.

Drove all round france without it. Took tyreweld and a footpump instead.

In the UK, get AA Relay !
