Been browsing for some possible engine transplants
and seen these ...
Impressive power to weight ratio's and a 400 hp jobbie not too expensive
but how long do they last ?
The guys at holeshot racing seem to have a comprehensive package and uprate all the right stuff but its a lot of hp out a small engine

what is the collective's opinion ?

Depends upon the intended car really. Road or race will have a big effect too.

Instinct would tell me they're not going to survive too many miles of hard use. If the vehicle's light enough and going to be mostly used on the road, the engine will probably last a good bit longer, as it won't be particulary stressed.

Whats it going in??

I thought that the logical choice for an engine swap in these would be some kind of V8 and I'm sure it's been done before.

The way the engines configured it's half a V8 anyway.

Someone put an Audi V8 into an Esprit, can't remember where I saw the details, but it was a very good conversion.

One for sale here: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/558419.htm

V8's have been done and successfully

but they get away from the ethos of "light is right' so I have been looking at good power to weight ratio motors

anaway it would be cool to blow some-one away with a 1.3 badge on the back ...biglaugh

Thats heavy, near double a Seven. Bike engine conversions are often talked about on the mx5 boards (stock MX5's weigh 950kg) and conclusion is they are too heavy for a bike engine.

How about a toyota 4 pot, 3SGTE or Aluminuim 3ltr V6 1MZ-FE from the Camry?

Far too heavy for a bike engine, I suspect the gearbox and clutch would expire very quickly.

The standard 'Busa motor seems bulletproof, and they seem to withstand mild turbocharging quite easily. However, anything near 400 bhp is getting pretty extreme, and I wouldn't think it would last long between rebuilds.

Another specialist (not mentioned above) that should be able to advise is Big CC Racing in Wokingham.
