Searched the archives and found similar but not exact. Went for a jolly good blast a few evenings ago and really opened the car up to it's full potential for the first time since ownership five or so weeks ago . However now, idling is strangely low and intermitent on EVERY OTHER RUN !!? to the extent that the engine dies completely. When on the move the car seems to behave normally but when approaching a stop the idling cuts and dies. Cleaned the stepper and plenum butterfly and adjusted idling screw. Apologies for any spelling errors - on my fourth glass of red. Can you fix it? KTG p.s - Have also noticed Chim, when now idling at all, idles initially at about 1500rpm then adjusts to 900 after a few secs.

Sounds a lot like my previous Chim (1993/L). It didn't happen often with me, and keeping stepper motor clean, HT leads well seated and running Optimax kept the problem at bay.

However, a couple of months after I sold it the new owner finally diagnosed the problem as one of the Lambda sensors was on it's way out...

Just a thought...although they are not that cheap so it is worth ruling out the simple things first...

Road speed sensor - it's job is to keep revs up between gearchanges and when the car is coasting to a halt. How low do the revs drop if you push the clutch in whilst moving?

got the same problem here... took mine out for a nice run on the autobahn over the weekend, monday morning came, turned over then died on me, tried again, started, then strggled at around 400rpm, then almost, as if by magic sprang to around 1200rpm.. the lambda sensors have been changed not 2 weeks ago... also first time i've run it with V-Power fuel (100 octane) unfortunately not available in UK..
