R1, GSXR, Duce, Blade or ZXR, Whos the daddy 1000cc+
Discussion
Well I love to read all the threads on here and enjoy the new purchases of bikes from PH members including pics.
I am at the point where I want to add a sports bike to my ZRX1100 which I enjoy doing the twisty bits with and the bottom end grunt pulling around traffic but it's knee down time.
So.....What is the best all round sports bike? I have done some time on a ZX10R and it had no bottom end grunt pulling out of bends but yee haa in the power band. Handling was kewl and light. R1's seem to fit me a bit better so over to you guys.

The GSX-R is the Daddy and has been since about 2005 when the awesome K5 was launched. I've ridden all the modern 1000's and the GSX-R is still the strongest package.
A good mate recently changed his GSX-R for a 1098S and he's loving it. However, it was an additional £9k over his Suzuki, so the Ducati isn't really in the same financial ball park. Awesome bike though

Make sure you're going into the bends with a *minimum* of 7-8k on the clock, then it will instantly fire out. The big bikes like revs thesedays. Not as much as 600s, but be prepared to wring its' neck to make it shift. To go fast on them, you need to be riding them hard. You can't have all that power *plus* low down torque. The maths don't add up, as power is *niavely* torque x revs....
Good luck.

Is there such a thing? If you mean 'practical' in a funny sort of way, Nick Sanders preferred the R1 for his record breaking round the world trips. I couldn't comment towards the R1's merits, but NS claimed comfort was a large part of his decision. I know R1 owners who sight this as good reason to go R1 because they like long distancing.Otherwise, if you really do mean 'knee down', go the whole hog (no pun intended, lol), MV1000F4. That's the real sportsbike daddy!
The fact that each of the manufactures are still producing and selling their respective bikes shows that there is not a ‘daddy’ amongst them. Each bike offers something slightly different and each will be good at something and better at something else. It totally comes down to what the rider wants/enjoys/likes/needs from their bike as to which one is best suited to them.
It's completely down to personal preference, i've never ridden a litre bike but i've tried a few 600's.
I tried the ZX6 and it felt cheap and nasty and its power delivery was shockingl bad, t's by far the worst bike i've ever ridden! & it was brand new. I had a sit on the R6 but i felt it was too small for me, i didnt like the looks of the CBR600 but i tried the GSXR and it all clicked, its completely down to your own preference, some people swear by yam, honda etc, just try everything and go for the best one for you!
Anyone who doesnt try befoe they buy is mad in my book!

I've got a GSXR 1000 and an Aprilia RSVR. The Aprilia is the far stronger bike in the curly stuff, and has lots more shove out of corners. The GSXR is a nice bike, and it's awesome in a straight line, but mine hasn't seen the light of day since I got the Mille, hence being up for sale. The Mille is just an animal in the corners, where the GSXR is decent enough the mille is brilliant. I do prefer the R1 to the GSXR if I'm honest as an all round bike.
If it's a 4 you're after, R1 gets my vote, if it's a twin you want you'd do worse than giving the RSVR's a look. As stated though it's all down to personal preferance.

Just taken delivery of a 2008 Fireblade in black. I test rode the GSXR, R1 and ZX10 first and thought the all round package of the Honda better. The bike is lightest by miles, almost as powerful as the ZX10 and runs rings around the others in all of the tests (although saying that, if I got within 50% of what any of them could do I'd be chuffed), so my vote would be the CBR. If money were no object it would be a 1098S or 1098R, however at £5K/16K more than the blade it wasn't too difficult to choose.
how do I upload a piccie??

Call me old fashioned but I like a bike that has bottom end grunt to pull out of the bend without being on the power band that will spit you off at the slightest twist of the throttle. That’s why I love 1000cc plus bikes. Big torque to get going and loads of yee-haa when you want it.
From the thread and thanks for all your comments, it looks like the R1 takes it! I must admit the ZX10R was mental but I was shouting out at it when I was trying low revs grunt through bends, it was flat as hell. It's not all about screaming down the road and being on the edge of spinning out for me.
At the end of the day we are riding on roads and not a race track and I just want a bike that has the grunt to drop into a bend and drag your boots off out of it (which the ZRX1100 has) but with the handling of a modern sports bike where you can scuff your elbows with confidence.
The Duce seems to have the grunt and yee haa and handling but the price for that is too high for me.
So do I go R1, GSXR or Blade? Oh bugger!
Mark.
