Thinking of shipping the car to Cyprus next year. Any tips on this idea? By shipping, I will drive it to Greece then ferry across but I am after advice on the feasibility and legality of taking it out for a holiday runabout.

As long as your insurance covers you, there shouldnt be a problem. ANd pretty much all UK policy's have a Euro extension, for limiter periods ( month or a few )

Some countries require a green card. Get this by informing your insurance company before travelling.

Other than that, Id say its just pretty much jump in and drive, abiding by any local countries laws at the time.

Blimey Jeff....you do like a roadtrip don't you!! That must be about 5000 miles round trip?!
I can't see a problem providing your insurance company covers you for the countries you intend to pass through.

I know you want to stop it rusting, but Cyprus! Jeff - how you going to bring it along to the Scottish meets Does this mean you might be toying with a move to foreign shores on a more permanent basis then? Found a job in the local harbour out there?

There is a port control at Limassol and they may require english speaking VTS operators indeed! No, really I would consider shipping it out for good seeing as we have the apartment and no one will offer me a sensible price (or any price for that matter!) And I will be just as well having fun out there for 8 weeks of the year!

I will make some serious enquiries when I get home. Just finished my 4 day car hire in a Nissan Note. I will say that road handling is not one of its best points but it had excellent aircon! The roads out here in Cyprus are seriously good for driving a rear drive car. Had 2 days in Troodos and the old Troodos road has to be driven to be believed. Only about 5 minutes of fun but I did turn round and have another go - in a Note!! Got the back wheel of the ground on one figure eight bend! Oh what fun! Must go now, a lovely waitress from Poland has just arrived with a cold pint of Keo!

Know anyone in the RAF?

(although you will have to soften the steep ramps on the back of the Herc with some more planks of wood) Don't ask me how I know
