disc issue - cv8
Discussion
Yep, they all do it and the brakes are a bit rubbish which is why we all upgrade to AP discs and calipers. At £2700 quid they are expensive but worth it. If you're interested I have some VZ CV8 brakes that I've just had replaced with APs; they are the same calipers as fitted to the VXR and Corvette C6 albeit with 320mm discs. Assuming you have an V2 (04) Monaro with 296mm discs these will be a worthy upgrade. Discs and pads on the front are less than 8k miles old. If you are interested PM me and I'll sell the lot for a sensible offer.

Topical, was checking mine on Monday.
I'm seeing up to 1.5 thou, that is 0.04mm at the edge. The work shop manual spec is 0.05mm. This diminishes to nothing towards the root of the swept area - so the hub itself is fine. You can see a slight streaking pattern - maybe the pad material transfer theory? Polishing this off did perhaps make them quieter but still judder. Min thickness says 30mm. Measures 31.76 - 31.78 passenger side, driver's 31.76 every where. So scope for skimming.
My beef is not the quality - the Monaro is a cheap US style muscle car and I'm not at all surprised the brakes haven't lasted. No, my compliant is the price of the disks. £310 for the pair? EBC £55 for my previous Omega. Almost as heavy and fast. Look for a set for a 2004 Pontiac GTO in the USA and you get dozens of choices many < $100. Still stuck here in rip off Britain...

you are a knowledgeable guy and I enjoy your findings as you at least do backup what you say but I cant help but feel you would be the life and soul at a wake.I'm seeing up to 1.5 thou, that is 0.04mm at the edge. lol I was in my local Vauxhall dealer today at the parts counter and the guy in front was ordering new pads and discs for some car or other and I couldn't help but laugh at the price - 78 quid for the front and 85 quid for the rear - that was for 2 discs and 2 sets of pads and included VAT as well. Now are you seriously telling me we couldnt get discs manufactured over here for a lot less than people currently pay.
