Discussion
A simple job (replacing the electric aerial) has turned into a larger sorting out of the electrics under the transmission tunnel console.
Many of the switches are exhibiting some sign of corrosion on the terminals and contacts.
Has anyone used the modular rocker switches from Vehicle Wiring Products (www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/switch-2/switch-2.html), or am I better hunting down the TR7 (???) switchgear?

Not me personally but I do know many people who have, from my kit car building days. They seem good quality and personally I prefer them to the original switches. Perhaps that's cos half of them are similar to yours.
Spookily enough I'm sat here typing out a shopping list for that very company atm

Depends how much of an originality fanatic you are.
You could try Rimmer Bros. in Lincoln: they buy in TR7s for spares. Same switches are used in Lotus Excel, but the later versions; so the ends of the levers are plain, not ribbed. Or so I'm told.

They're all faily standard switches made by Lucas an should be available for not very much. The only difference between what they produce now and the original is that they have EU standard logos on rather than text.
Alternatively next weekend is the Beaulieu Autojumble. I bought a few at a similar event a couple of years back for 50p each.

RichardR said:Good question. The existing switches are 12.7mm X 38.1mm (1/2" X 1.5"). The switches from VWP are 26mm X 50mm - fitting into an aperture 22mm X 44mm. I was thinking of making up a new fascia (veneered by myself) to accommodate them. I have also been thinking about making up a new dashboard too.

I just reread my post on switch sizes and rechecked the VWP site because I thought I'd made an error.
For the sake of correctness (not that it materially affects what I posted), the website states:
"Overall dims of switch 26mm x 50mm, fits into aperture 22 x 44mm, or can be gang mounted into gang frames."
Check the aperture in the veneer. It is larger, but not enough in my view (I can't check mine at present), but could be opened out and the switches mounted into it. Might look better too than having the switches behind the veneer. At least that's where my thoughts are going.

I think I'll measure the size of the current opening in the veneer then. You also mentioned re-veneering the panel yourself - is that a difficult/specialist job?
The 'ASIS' veneered panels in the Wedge are a specialist job. I happen to have cabiner making as a hobby and some nice veneers in my workshop. They're thin ones though so I intend to make a (cabinet grade) plywood former. that way I can design the layout to suit my needs.
We'll see how it turns out. It will likely be a winter job.

eeek, just got a load of those switches from VWP, could be fun. Probably be a while before I get round to doing anything with them but they seem good quality. Was a little troublesome ensuring you order all the right component parts for them.....
I won't dare to venture any hints quite yet, I haven't assembled the bits yet so don't know if I got it right!
Theoretically, follow the instructions on the page, getting the switch body, rocker, lenses, bulbs+connector block.
I'll let you know how well they fit in the existing holes, will try them this weekend, in between fitting the £xxx of other bits I've bought for her this week
