I have tried using the search function, so I hope this has not been asked before.

The i-drive system on my car (Alpina B5) has "frozen". This started a week ago, when I inserted the key into the slot. The "set the time" warning light came on, suggesting the system had somehow reset itself, and then the "BMW" logo appeared on the central screen (as it normally does).

The system then clearly tries to boot up (I can hear the navigation DVD whirring, for example), but after about 2 minutes (with the BMW logo still showing), the screen then goes blank, waits five seconds, and then tries to re-boot again. The cycle repeats over and over.

Obviously I may well have to take the car to a service agent, but if anyone has any idea how to reset the system so that it boots up correctly, I would be most grateful. (Kind of a "control-alt-delete" solution!)

Thanks

Kind regards

Steve

Sounds like either the battery is low and the CCC has been turned off to allow the car to be started or you have picked up a spike.

Firstly ensure the battery is fully charged.

If that doesnt help then carry out a battery reset-To do this ensure you have no toys plugged in (battery charger, road angel that type of thing). Then disconnect the earth/negative terminal from the battery.

Now you can either leave it for a few hours disconnected and eventually any spikes will decay away or to accelerate the process touch the negative terminal(thats the cable)to the possitive battery terminal...dont worry, you wont explode or have a fire works display because you have removed the earth from the battery therfore isolating the battery.

Reconnect the earth and see if thats helped...if the fault still persists then its to the stealer or someone like me.

So to recap - Disconnect negative battery terminal, touch the negative terminal cable to the positive terminal, reconnect negative battery terminal
