guys I was driving up the A38 today Between Derby & M1. Cruising up the inside late I noticed an 02 plate white high roof transit van with the spare wheel on the rear door. It looked like a typical used transit, then what caught As I got closer the rear roof section had two tinted windows & sat behind were 2 camera's (tilted towards the outside lane).

In the front cab were 2 policemen!

This in my opinion is the lowest of the lowest.. The question I have is.. Has any spotted this van before? and does it take footage whilst driving or just when static?

Cheers!

Sounds more like ANPR rather than a speed camera van.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition: As a vehicle passes through an ANPR camera, it takes an image of the number plate. Those details are then fed into a system which checks them against sources such as the Police National Computer (PNC), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Local Force Intelligence systems and motor insurers databases. If the number plate is matched to one of the sources, the ANPR equipment will sound an alert.

Got ya! So the camera is rolling whilst the van is moving?

Used to be one parked on the main road outside work --seemed to need a generator for power - and any others I've seen had generators - so unless they've sorted out the power requirements - suspect it's only when they're static

Slightly different to GATSO's.

With ANPR, a camera snaps your number plate as you pass through a set point. Another ANPR camera further down the road snaps your number plate again. A central computer then calculates your average speed between each fixed point, and if your speed is above a certain level over the posted speed limit, then NIP! You're done.

This system does have flaws.

No, ANPR has nothing to do with speed. You're thinking of SPECS (average speed cameras) and if you want to see those, drive through the M1 widening roadworks.

ANPR detects unlicensed and uninsured vehicles and those known to have been involved in criminal activities.

A38 Lichfield to Bassets Pole Sutton Coldfield. Having received my first speeding ticket via the average speed camera, booked at 70mph, I had gone through the first camera over speed (70)when I normally make sure it is 60mph and have been allegedly known to go up to 70/75, but 60mph at the camera point and had not received a ticket before.
What I would like to know as an average speed camera times 3 they must hold the car information over the 3 cameras, I had been told by a police officer that holding information in that format was against the data protection act. If that was the case are these cameras just fixed point cameras and the reason why those going faster between the cameras but 60mph at camera point are not necessarily booked?
Anther point average times would vary through someone doing 60mph, using the longest 'part' of the road to others using the 'racing line'. Again as many Police friends on traffic usually quote speed limit plus 10% plus 5%, their guide to want to pull someone in, the A38 would therefore be 59mph I was therefore unlucky.

Bizarre definition of unlucky!

I was speeding by a fair margin where I know there are cameras and I got caught

Is unlucky like

I hit my head with a hammer and now I have s headache.

That's not unlucky.
