Weight of an Can-Am?
Discussion
First of all, sorry of my bad english. I'm from Germany an School English was about 10 years ago ^^
Question: The Ultima GTR has a weight of 990kg ( Klick). But there is no weight specification at the Can Am Spec Site. So I think the Can-am has less weight than the GTR, right?
What about the performance of the CanAm. All World Record Times on the Website was driven with an GTR. Has the Can-Am the same performace than the GTR? Or are there differences between the performance of an GTR and the Can-Am with the Same Engine?

Hi sobisch ,my Can-am weighed in at 870kg with driver and 2 full tanks of fuel !! very light !!
performance wise they are pretty equal the GTR is supposed to have a bit better aero due to the closed cabin While a Can-am tends to have a bit less underster .
To be honest don,t think there would be much in it but i,m sure the GTR boys would tell you different;). simon

No matter what nationality you may be, logic applies to us all
If you take a vehicle and half it, it will always weigh significantly less.
The CanAm is certainly worth considering if you are a flighty sort that, shall we say for arguments sake, would be using your car to go from one customers place of residence to another's in quick succession and therefor need to transport your curlers, blow dryers, tongs and any other tools of the trade that may be required and having no roof may be a definite advantage as packing a proper Ultima can be a laborious task to say the least.
If, on the other hand, you want a proper car, get a GTR
Now, did I mention the best colour choice?
But on a more serious note;
So much depends on other aspects of the car you intend to build. Light weight is unquestionably a definite plus point but I think that many would be surprised just how quick a heavier less powerful car would be in comparison to the opposite.
Just out of interest my German friend, you don't live anywhere near the Nordscleife do you?

Hello Wayne
The Ultima should be a "Fun Car" for Weekends and good weather, only to drive around a little bit or make a road trip to special events or locations. So I think the CanAm is a good choice to me, for every day tours I take my loved, practical and timeless MB W124 Kombi (estate?) tuned by Väth . So I didn't really NEED a car / Ultima It's only for having a nice time on weekends. So it can be really irrational, so I think the "convertible" Version of the Ultima is nice for me, it will be driven only at sunny days, so I need no roof, no air condition, no radio... In addition, I like the the visual appearance of the Can-Am, it didn't look so much like a Race-Car *G*
I like the Ultima like this:
So the colour choice question is clear? *GG*
The "Nordschleife" of the Nürburg ring is round about 250km away from the Place I live.
"My" CanAm get the LS7 Engine (only the LS7 is licenced to use on German Roads because a new car need th exhaust emission standard "Euro 5" to register it). So I had to take the more expensive LS7. I think I prefer the 650hp Amerspeed Version or the 725+ Version from Jeff Schwartz Performance. With the weight statement from TuxMan, the empty Car without driver and fuel would have a weight ratio of nearly 1hp / kg . But I had to inform if there are problems with a "tuned" LS7 Version in germany, anybody knows the exhaust emission standard from Jeffs Engines in comparison to the production LS7 Engines from Chevy?

So is this where we have to believe you ??? 870 my Arse... the only Ultimas that where that light were the Old Spyders with a Rover engine. No chevy engined 5th gen cars are under 1000Kgs with fuel.....period... Ps 990kgs GTR was without ANY Fluids.. and no AC if I remember right..performance wise they are pretty equal the GTR is supposed to have a bit better aero due to the closed cabin While a Can-am tends to have a bit less underster .

I'm hoping to bring my Spyder in somewhere around the 800kg mark.
Audi RS4 Engine and 01X 6-speed Box.
Flyscreen.
No air-con.
Carbon Fibre Seats.
One Central Tank.
Basically - if it doesn't NEED it, then it ain't getting it!
Will be well chuffed if I can achieve anything over 500bhp per ton.
