...mess up the stand after a while? I was thinking of getting one of those mini turntables and a centre stand, but I
came across those links and wondered if anyone else does this and if so, will the stand take it?

I've done it with small bikes but always in the other direction - as that seems more likely to keep the stand in place. I've never fancied doing it on my own bike, though.

There is some footage of someone turning a turbo hyabusa around on the stand;

Yes it will, I learned that the hard way on my very first Supersports 12 years ago.

Avoid it if you can.

I wouldn't do it, especially on my Ducati the stands are weak enough as it is and I know of several that have broken and of one that actually broke the crankcase where the stand bolts on to.

It depends on the bike - I used to do it all the time with my Bandit as the stand was like a scaffold pole - conversely, I'd never take the risk on the R1 as the stand is tiny and flexes enough in normal use!
