i am looking into getting my full bike licence. now im a bit stumped as to what bike to get.
i dont really need any tips on getting kit and saftey gear as i have most of it already.
now i was thinking of getting either a 1989 yamaha FZR 400 RR. a 1990 gsx 600F, a 1997 cbr 600 or a 1993 KAWASAKI ZXR 400 L3. now i dont really know much about bikes. but i do know what i like the look of (im a car man but would love a bike that accsellerates pretty good an handles nice)
now what im wondering is out of those four. which would be the best for a first bike. tbh i dont really want a 125 but would probably run on a 250 for a while if it meant getting better bike control (want something with a bit of power) any help would be appresiated

Hello mate.
Out of the choices I'd be having the CBR. No idea really, just would!

ps - Best way I ever seen accelerate spelt!

I've had both the ZXR400 and FZR400 (albeit the RRSP version of the YAM with a stupidly high 1st gear) and to be honest if you want acceleration then avoid both as they need hammering to get moving and a 10 year old 400 will most likely be caned by now. There are loads of CBR's around for spares too, you might struggle on the 400's. That said the FZR was an awesome handling bike, not quick but would go round bends better than anything elso I have owned other than my old RGV....good old days!

I've just bought a yzf600r (Thundercat to the masses) after 6 years of riding scooters and it seems to do everything very well considering the price. Insurance was acceptable, it is more than capable of going very fast should you wish and has the 'sports bike look' albeit a sportsbike of the late 90's.

I got mine for £2k which was a little steep, but it was in the right colour, right miles, right history and supplied with a fresh MOT, Tax and warranty from a dealer. You can get earlier examples from as little as £1k (£1.5k for a good'un though). Can't really go that wrong.

I just need to work on smooth riding now....

have you thought about the RF series in a 600 or a 900, I bought a 900 and i am enjoying it.

It's always nice to think about what bike you want before you do your test - gives you an aim and something to get excited about. I don't know many riders who didn't ponder what bike they wanted before they passed their test!! smile

Totally agree, i decided i wanted a fireblade before id even booked my CBT, got a cbr125r to start on though. Definitely motivational to have an aim.
