Anyone replaced their Griff seats with other TVR ones? I know that the old Cerbera ones fit as they are in the later Griff's, but I reckon they still look a bit dated.
Wondered if it was possible to fit seats out of a Tuscan or Tamora (would need to be re-trimmed, of course)?

Cheers,

Dave

I have been looking into this. The answer is as follows:

Option 1: Tuscan seats will fit, but you get longer runners, so they need new holes in the floor. The problem is that unless you can get some in the right colour they will need retrimming. Douglas Valley gave me a quote of £600 plus vat and postage (after initially quoting me £900 per pair!!!). Retrimming adds about £450-£600 per pair. This makes them financially unviable IMO.

Option 2: Fit Zertec Seats (Cost about £1k) These fit direct and look good, with loads of options. I have got the details from Clive and will e-mail them direct to you if you wish.

Option 3: Buy proprietry after market seats. Take advice on what fits and then get them recovered. This is probably the cheapest option (just), but depends on the price of the seats.

I have given up for the time being and am waiting to find Tuscan seats in the right colour to avoid the retrimming costs.

I feel they suit the car perfectly! Plus they offer far better support than originals & lumbar too

I have fitted a pair of Tuscan seats to my Chimaera and boy what a difference.
If you can get a pair cheap even not the right colour go for it. Also if they are a damaged pair of seats with twists, get them. The seat will strip apart very easy. Then all you are left with is the frame, which is then very, very easy to fix. Then do a retrim.

Get the Tuscan seats, you will not be sorry,

Many thanks for your replies. I already have the Zertec info and may bite the bullet and give Clive a call. Unless, of course, I get my sweaty palms on a reasonably priced pair of Tuscan seats from a breaker.

Not sure I read the comments at the top of the thread properly but didn't biggriff say that he was quoted 600 + VAT + retrimming cost for Tuscan seats? £800 seems like a lot for secondhand seats from a breaker, they'll be getting more for the parts than the car was worth before it got written off.

I agree with you Joolz! That's silly money. I was thinking more like £200 for two, but I guess that may have been wishful thinking.

Breakers are like any other business and will make as much money as they can. Don't forget that with any vehicle except a kit car it would cost you more to buy all of the parts and build it yourself than it does to buy the car "off the shelf".

The breakers will undercut the manufacturer by just enough to get people to buy. So if a set of Tuscan seats costs over £1k (I bet they actually cost over £2K) then a breaker could easily charge £800 for a good set.

Not sure I fully understand that. So how much are a new pair of Tuscan seats from a TVR dealer? Surely if they're actually 2k they'd soon be out of business if they're selling them for a k! I know what you're saying about the cost of building one from parts and agree, economies of scale and all that, we pay the retail price for everything we buy aswell which is +17.5% tax and retailer profit. Secondhand goods don't get charged with vat as they've already been taxed (I believe unless the government wants even more money out of us). Agreed, matey does have to make a profit out of his business but he'll have won the lottery without a ticket at that rate. All supply and demand I spose though and if they're good as new there could be a bit of a saving.

Full hide trim is a £1980 option on a new Tuscan (just looked).
