cabriolet hoods jargon?

The outer canvas hood of my 1992 cab 900 saab is all ripped up, but the interior, just above my head is fine.
If I buy a 'headliner', is this the outer part that stretches from the top of the front window to the zip above the top of the glass window in the back?
What is the difference between a 'headliner' and the 'top', because there is a big price difference between them.
I keep finding them to buy but don't want to order the wrong part.
The glass and surrounding canvas is fine by the way.
By the way, thanks to those of you who advised me on my panel problem. Much needed and well appreciated.
