I've seen a really nice A4 auto, the problem is it's an auto... but it is at the right price.

So, I was wondering if it was possible and how much it would cost for me to convert it to manual at a later stage since i'm not a fan of automatic gear boxes?

Simple answer, dont do it.

It would easily cost more than the difference to get another car. It would be loads of hassle, and would need a fair few fabricated parts.

I still dont understand why people dislike autos, unless they've never driven them

Actually from my research the only difference is the crank and the downpipe, the gearbox mountings are the same, if you don't know what your talking about please don't add your opinion.

The hole car will be different electrically. The engine ECU, ABS ECU, Instrument pack etc will all be programed to work with the auto box. It is probably not even possible, and definitely not cost effective to convert to manual.

If its a quarto Auto, they are fairly good boxes, if its Front wheel drive and has the Multi-tronic box in it get another car, multi-tronic is the work of the devil.

Cant see why the crank would be different, manually and auto engines are generally the same, flywheel would be different obviously. Do you know how much work would be involved in changing a crankshaft. About 20 hours labour @ £80/hour + £600 for the crank + bearing shells and gaskets, thats £2200 + Vat. And then you need gear lever and linkages and new center console.

Seriously the idea is lunacy. Its like the guy who wanted to convert a LHD TT to RHD. You could buy 2 other cars for the same cost.
