Currently have an XTR2 and am looking to change.

What's the general consensus on trackday running costs?
Do most of you run on your road tyres or have a set of trackday wheels and slicks?
Generally are they fairly durable? (one of the reasons to change)

And what about day to day running costs. I'd imagine fuel bills are a little higher than the Westie but how uneconomical are they? do they break 2 figures?

Will be having a very good look and long chat with Ultima at Donington on sat, but any unbiased views would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

How was your experience of the XTR2, and how come you're looking for a change?

When it was running right it was fantastic, very sweet handling car. Ours had custom shocks, carbon front end, motorsport APs etc. It weighed just under 50kg less than a factory car and considering the size of the engine and the power it went v well. Did a 12.5 @ 110 at the pod without changing anything.

But these times were few and far between and can't go into anymore than that at the moment incase it harms our case

Got a website if you want to check it out (still unfinished) www.xtr2.net

Hence looking for something a bit more "durable"

I've only done a couple of track days in mine, but I have raced it in 100 mile endurance races as well. In all that time (about 1000 miles of competative driving), I never had any mechanical troubles at all. A couple of blocked injectors gave me a bit of a misfire at one point, but I wouldn't put that down to anything to do with the car.

Being self build, they're as reliable as you make them. As far as quality of components from Ultima goes, I don't think anybody here would saythat they are anything less than excellent. Having read your site in the past, you won't get any of the problems you found with bits not fitting or having to re-engineer things to get them to go together. As it comes, you can build an extremely nice car with very little effort. That isn't to say that people don't re-engineer things, but that comes down to personal preference rather than "it doesn't go together".

Fuel economy is very much down to the engine you fit, and how you drive. If you go for a monster supercharged lump like Stig, you'll be measuring it in feet per gallon If you go for something more "sensible" (I say sensible advisedly, because these are some of the most un-sensible road cars you can buy

Cheers James,

After reading through Stigs excellent build diary the difference between the 2 marques and how they're operated is very obvious.

Really need to consider costs now. XTR was nearly 50% over budget and it wasn't even finished, so god knows what one of these would be. May have to make it a 10 year build

Mine has been 100% reliable on track, I've done nothing to the car to prepare for the days as I've found if I keep the car OK for the road it's good for the track as well....

When I say track I am including Circuits, drag strips, runways (bruntingthorpe) even show 0-60 competitions!

My car is also a high spec one with 500bhp and runs 11.4's at the strip and I have been recorded at 184mph after 1.5miles at Brunters (can do in excess of 200mph).... and it returns an average of 15mpg on the road which drops into single figures on track.

I'm extremelly happy with my car and will be very sad to see her go
