My oil pressure sender unit is now leaking quite badly through the thread that screws into the block.

Can I use PTFE tape (plumbers use it) to seal the thread, will it take the pressure and heat or is there something better to use?

Thanks,
Martin.

There will be no problems from the heat and pressure, but if the sender needs an earth through the block this may cause a problem, but I doubt it. I'm sure there will be metal to metal contact somewhere in the thread.
