Hi I've been looking at some car options and think I might have found the right car for me. My idea is a 2004/2005ish Range Rover running on LPG. I've seen a few for sale already converted hence I thought I might ask if anyone ran one.

Any feedback/info on cost would be great.

I realise that it is a different engine, but I run a 4.6 on LPG - The previous generation P38 Range Rover.

Cannot fault it.

Only downside is the distance between fill-ups (250-280 miles) - but at £38 for a full tank of gas, I'm happy to compromise!

Whatever you do, make sure that your LPG installation (whether you have the conversion done yourself, or whether you buy a car that has already been done) is a good one. There are some poor installers out there.

Thanks for the response. 250/280 is good going for £38 so that’s the first box ticked.

I totally take onboard what you say about good installations and bad ones. I’ve had a look and found a few for sale with the kit in place but they are around the £20K marker whereas the same car without the conversion in place can be had for just under £17K.

I’ve no idea how much to expect to pay for the conversion, any indications of cost would be much appreciated, but I’d have hoped I’d have change from the £3K I’d save buying a car without the kit . I actually rather get it done myself that way I know who done it and just what was used.

250-280 can go as low as 200-220 depending on how enthusiastic your driving is!

The majority of mine is motorway stuff at 70-80 with cruise switched on.

It cost me £2200 + vat for a certificated sequential multipoint system with a 95 litre tank fitted into the spare wheel well (no loss of boot space, and a can of tyre inflator instead of a spare wheel for emergencies)

That seems to be the going rate from the research I did prior to going ahead with the installation.

Again, this was for the previous generation RR (P38) and not the current model that you are looking at (L322), although I suspect that the installation cost would not differ much as the process is pretty much the same.

Remember that the LPG system will need an annual (or 12,500 mile) service - around £80

My post would read word for word for Meeja's except mine is a 4.4V8 (2003). Can't recommend the conversion highly enough. Make sure it's a Prins kit and make sure it's done by someone reputable. Budget for £2k+vat for the (certified) conversion and £100 ish per year for a service (filter change). The tanks themselves are certified for ten years before replacement. A 95l tank will give you around 75l useable which will give you 200-300 miles range, depending how heavy your foot is. Best range on mine has been 300 miles based on continuous motorway cruising at 60mph (GPS). Worst was 220 miles based on general driving (75% motorway). I average around 17mpg on LPG (expect about 20mpg on petrol). At current unleaded prices, the conversion will pay for itself after about 12-14000 miles.

i paid 2500 quid for mine (about that, i think) fully certified, top end kit, found them as low as 600 quid . . . . . .

did my homework, realised all the people telling nightmare storys about lgp being rubbish had tried to do it on the cheap and the people happy with their trouble free lpg installs where done proper.

so bought the best i could.

the rangey is a keeper but if we did sell it I doubt id get 2 grand more for it due to it being a lpg install car.

do it

do it proper

will be the best thing you will ever do to your rangey
