There is always the perennial favourite(!) the CG125*

Buy an oldie and you can generally sell it for what you paid for it.

CG.

If you are under 21, then you are restricted IIRC. May as well do the full test if you can.

No one checks the restrictions.

Anything fairly new is going to depreciate, so go for somthing older and reliable like a CG125. As reliable as a brick (though about as interesting), by an old one for not a lot, sell it again for not a lot.

Yep, has to be the CG.

Rock solid values and never a problem to move on.

I finished my first day of my CBT yesterday....planning on a A2 licence (restricted to 33bhp for 2years). No Im not bothered about a DirectAccess (or the cost of an additional £650!)
how many day's cbt are you taking?

There shouldn't be that much of a price difference between a2 test and a, imo, they're similar tests bar the power of the bike on which it is taken, is this what you have been quoted as a difference?

CG125 is a very good bet. You can often buy them for less than you will end up selling them for!

Also, if you're over 21, there's no reason whatsoever not to do DA instead of A2 - same lessons, same test, you just have to have a bit of paperwork FORBIDDING you from driving anything over 33hp for 2 years... and just because a bike is over 33hp, it doesn't mean it's a lunatic sportsbike, it could just be an awesome cruiser.

Oi, don't flame me furiouslaugh for suggesting a 125 but........are any relatively easy to resell on or.......oldies that are relatively depreciation-free?

I seriously recomend you look for a different instructor if that is the sort of money he is asking for a DAS course. Around here a DAS is £450 including all test fees.

If you're a big fella, then a Honda XR125 or Varadero (125) are worth a look as they are both a big bike, feel like a big bike, but cost bugger all to run and insure.

CG125 - or Yamaha YBR 125 - you won't lose much on either. Cost you little or nothing to insure, tax and fuel as well....... but once you've experienced a bigger bike...a 125 feels very small and vulnerable.....

At least the trail 125's are physically bigger - DT125's a laugh - I also know someone who has one of the Chinese (Sinnis I think) Supermoto knock off things - which he rates (build quality OK apparently).......but don't expect them to hold value like a KawaHonSuzYam
