For those of you who don't subscribe. This month Cars and Car Conversions have an article on Stig's car. They even have it pictured on the front cover.
Worth a trip to the newsagents to buy a copy. Also, it's the last issue ever, as apparently it's closing down this month, after 40 years. A real shame, as it's one of my favourites. The writers have a very good style that exudes enthusiasm about their subject.

Stig. i completely agree with you about the power delivery. Compared to my friend's F40, the GTR feels slow, despite having more power and being far (FAR) quicker head to head. Feels, is the operative word as the F40 is gutless until the turbos come in, then you get a belt in the back. With the Ult, there is loads more torque and power delivery is far smoother. There is no doubt that the Ult is awesomely quick - its not until you are head-to-head or overtaking do you really see the power of it!

That's what I tried to explain to Dave Doz. It's very deceptive, but the speed at which it reels in other cars is self evident!
There's definitely more power to come, but I've got a few mods to make to get the engine bay temps down before they can be free'd up. Again, the car won't 'feel' much quicker (it's already like playing Gran Turismo!), but I like to get what I paid for in engine terms
Have you thought about getting your exhaust cermic coated Stig? I had mine done inside and out by Camcoat for about £350+VAT+delivery which was quite reasonable. Don't have any other Ultimas to compare it with but the radiated heat from the headers/silencer is not as much as I had feared. Another plus is that other than a slight dulling the first time you fire them up they stay nice and shiny and polished looking...not yukky and brown.

Did you coat the standard exhaust or the stainless exhaust?

I was going to get a standard (mild steel) exhaust but the factory don't keep them in and it would have taken some time to get one so I've just gone for the stainless one. Seems a pity to camcoat a stainless one so I was just going to leave it.

Nope, and they can do inside and out although, you pay a bit for them to be cleaned first.
Had the same scenario when I asked about mild steel and went for stainless. Still, the blueing of the stainless after a while looks a bit shite and the cermakrome keeps its colour. Polished up, you've almost got a chrome finish anyway.
Don't waste your money on a mild steel system. I thought about this at one point but the lead time was going to be 4 months or so which was more than I was prepared to wait (though in hindsight it wouldn't have been too bad) so I went for the stainless. The stainless system will be able to take more heat and generally be more durable. Also the ceramic coating process only covers the outside of your silencer boxes...the mild steel will still rot. Though the coating is *very* hard and durable there is a bit of inevitable scraping of the overlapping connections during isntallation. In mild steel this would rust and look naff. If you are worried about the appearance I can post pics of my car to let you see what a somewhat used ceramic system looks like (just like new).

Cheers Dave, some pics would be helpful. I thought stainless was more brittle and more likely to crack than mild?
