I need some help here - I have an intermittent fault which the garage can't seem to fix and am now getting a tadge hacked off (not with them as they have been great)- any thoughts would be welcome.

When driving along, the turbo seems to cut out and as as a result, a severe lack of power even with the foot to the floor. Turn the engine off anf the fault goes away.......until the next time.

So far, a new air mass meter and some other bits including a new chip have been fitted and the fault is still occuring.

Anyone had the same and got it sorted.

My Bora 115 PD does exactly the same since it was chipped. Does yours only do it at around 2000rpm and usually in a high gear on the motorway when you put your foot down?
If you have VAG COM I bet it would say the fault code is something along the lines of excessive boost pressure (mine says this). Basically if you look at a plot of turbo boost when you plant your foot, initially it spikes up to about 1.5bar before dropping quickly to about 0.9bar (or 1.1bar on my chipped car). It is this initial spike, if its too high and boost isnt bled off quickly enough, that trips out the ECU and puts it into limp mode which basically gives you virtually no boost at all.

As you've already replaced your MAF, check all the hoses to/from the turbo and make sure there isnt a leak.

Im pretty certain mine is the MAF tho, as a plot of the MAF readings show it drops outside the parameters it should do, and the car doesnt accelerate linearly, you put your foot down, it accelerates initially for a few seconds, then seems to die off for a few seconds before going better again. The trouble is I cant take mine to a dealer as its outside VAG warranty, and I dont fancy paying a dealer to look at it when, as you've found out, they usually cant fix it.
Let me know if you find out what the problem is

Yup, sounds the same to me - normally in 6th gear in the outside lane of the Motorway but sometimes when you accellerate hard going up a hill.

Going to have a chat with garage if I can get back in time on Friday night - I'm lucky as the original fault occured just before the end of the warranty - the mass meter was a £300 job which I am glad I didnt have to pay for.

The garage have been pretty good but I think its time for the car to go back to VW to be sorted - if not, it's going to have to go which is a shame coz it's a good car which I get 50 plus mpg out of.

Well, it's still playing up and I am now waiting for the garage to come back to me.
