Electrical Problem [Fuel and Temp Gauge]

Hi Guys,

Car is a 1997 E36 318is M44 1.9 16v Coupe.

I noticed that both my Fuel and Temp gauges have stopped working.....

But here is where it gets interesting. The Fuel gauge will work with the nose of the car pointing uphill, BUT it gives different readings when its working :lol:

I have had the wire in the sender soldered last year so it could be that again. But what would be the cause of both those gauges getting affected at the same time? Would there be a fuse, connector or relay that governs those two gauges?

Im going to go check the fuel tank sender in the morning to see if its that thats broken again to try and fix the fuel gauge.

After investigation the wire in the tank sender is still attached so it isnt that.

It is blowing the 5amp fuse (Number 26 I think, I will double check) which is one of the instrument dial fuses.

Any idea what might be causing this?
