My Renault 19 TD has decided it likes being driven so much it wont switch off.

I Can remove the key from the ignition and it wont stop the engine. It idles, revs and does what it would with the ign on, save it isnt. I changed the stop solenoid for a new one, and that hasnt worked. I even disconnected the new solenoid and still it runs. I have to stall it evey time I want to stop it.

Any ides? Its running (and has been for over a year) on Biodiesel and this is the first problem ive had.

Other than this it runs flawlessly as always.

Cheers in advance!

You would not normally expect it but perhaps your new stop solenoid is also defective.

I Did think this, which is why i disconnected the wire from the top. Still no dice.

Anyone know specifically what the solenoid does? It looks like it shoots a plunger out when 12v is removed from it and blocks a small hole at the bottom of the recess it screws into.

It stops the flow of fuel so with nothing connected there should be no fuel flow.
If you are happy that the plunger is going down into the housing and closing the hole then there must be something more fundamentally wrong in the pump but I can't think what.

I do NOT know that this is the reason...

But wasn't there a problem with Renault TDs where an engine with worn rings would somehow recyle the engine oil by pressurising the crankcase and running on the oil forced up through the breather system, eventually becoming a runaway?

Hope it isn't.

that or the turbo oil seals have gone which does the same thing, try pulling of the crankcase breather pipe to the inlet and blocking it off ( inlet end)

If that stops it then its running on crankcase fumes

I'd check your oil level isn't dropping!
