Yesterday morning after the Wedge had stood out uncovered all night (and me with a new hood cover too!) the battery tray was full of water.

What have other wedge owners down to stop water collecting there or to drain it away? And don't say, "Keep it under cover" ... please!

The new hood cover doesn't look as though it provides protection over the battery (RHS, back of engine compartment, over the footwell in case there are different positions).

I've thought of making up a cover which would sit on top of battery and drain water away between engine and wheel arch, but this would also reduce air flow through the louvres. I also thought of glueing a wick (eg. replacement for parafin heater) into the bottom of the tray and leading in down the side of the wheel arch to 'wick' water away.

Ideas gratefully welcomed.

There is a drain hole on my 400 in the space between the bottom of the inner arch and the battery with a short length of copper pipe which drains it away under the wheel arch. It was blocked solid when I brought the car, could this be the case?

I'll check and revert, but as posted elsewhere, my battery is an interference fit (read jammed in tight) - Streaky

Never bothered. I think the design is ment to let it happen. A good blat around some twisties should get rid of it.

I do get some funny looks though when its pouring down and the water sloshes on the exhaust resulting in steam.

The onlookers obviously don't know about Tiv cooling problems

Never bothered doing anything about it in mine and it never caused me any problems. I mean, how could it it's only the plastic bottom of a battery and a fibreglass tub. It won't rust

The only thing I would say; is to make sure your battery is well secured or it can rub a hole underneath it, which will lead to a lot of water in your footwell. Which is why i wouldn't go trying to put drain tubes through it - just asking for trouble.

Also, I used to like the steam too!

Its actually sited at the end of the battery near the servo and exits near the top steering uj,I fitted a length of braided hose on it (because its shiney!)to direct it from the chassis,it also does a really good job!

Just thinking that a bit of steam whilst rumbling, snarling and shaking at the lights next to a euro boxmobile adds to the Wedge effect...... Even better if your engine makes a noise as well

Maybe I should block it up again just to try that out!

Oh yes, it does make a noise.

Now, what about ionstalling a 2nd washer bottle with the pipes directed onto the exhausts so you can get the effect at will?
