Newbie owner !
Discussion
Picked up my '93 400 yesterday evening. Car is fantastic, but a couple of niggles I need to sort out and would welcome some advice on.
1. On trip home (approx. 40 miles) started to get a slight hesitation around 65 mph, almost like a fuel starvation problem. Around this time the speedo started sticking (probably unrelated). Eventually car ground to a halt. Left it 10 mins, restarted and it's been fine since !!!
The car has just had both Lamda sensors replaced and I'm not sure if the ECU has been compensating prior to this and hasn't been reset ???
2. Passenger footwell (behind carpet) looks a bit of a mess. Looked in Steve Heath's bible and it's difficult to say if it's normal. Carpet itself doesn't seem to go back as far as I'd expect it to against the bulkhead.
Any one with a picture of the bulkhead of a '93 car you could point me at ?
3. Final question (honest !) Is there a way to lock the doors (from inside). Manual refers to a button on the top of the release knob but there's no button !

sorry, a fairly newbie owner myself so cant help alot. However, i too have a 93 chim with no button on the central door knob. As far as i know there is no way of locking the doors on the early cars from inside. Not really a problem though as any car jacker wont know how to open them from the outside either. Plus I keep a big stoplock in the car to beat them over the head with.

Welcome to the world of Chimaera ownership Mine was registerd 1/1/04 so is a 93 build (November based on the dates on the back of the fibreglass IIRC)
1. Do you get a hiss from the fuel tank. If so the carbon filter can thingy cis blocked. This will cause a vacuum in the tank and may cause starvation probs.
2. "They all do that sir" - as untidy as hell, nothing fixed just left to flounder and get wet at the bottom of the well. I have mounted my fuses and ECU from the battery box mounts. The carpet does not go very far back either. Short legged passemgers only !
3. No little white plastic button on the top of the door know - well mine has one, but then they are all different. It may be something to do with locking using the alarm blipper - mine does but IIRC some earlier ones you have to use the key.
All the above is IMHO
Buy a copy of shpub's bible - absolutely indispensable and does cover these sort of topics.

If the car has a cat (I think) the system is supposed to purge via the carbon can, that's what it's there for, not the fuel cap. Therefore the cap is supposed to be on tight (well tightish, just not loose). So I understand.
