I imagine that on the way down, you'd be thinking to yourself that genital amputation without anaesthetic would score more highly on the enjoyment scale, but once you're there you'd absolutely love it. And think of all those fuel stops!battered by the wind or would i be ok?
I'd love to take my SM down to the Alps to play but I'd van it down - it'll never happen though!
I don’t understand why you think there will be an issue. The bike is easily up to the journey, either as a gentle run down over a few days or as a single day blast down the Autoroutes. Your speed will need to be set according to what is comfortable but I have done Calais to the Med in a day on a CX500, two up, where my cruising speed was around 80mph. If the seat is uncomfortable, then look at the likes of the Airhawk seat cushions.

with 100miles max between fuel stops does it become an issue finding places to fuel?
Would it be a problem here? Its only France, I can't see that it would be any problem except maybe on a Sunday.Go for it, set your speed appropriately and just bimble down... Once you are there you will love it!
Otherwise there may be a car-train that can whisk you down some of the way: Paris -> Geneva is a possibility for example:

That way you'll be ready to hit the Alps nicely rested!
