Well if a car tries to kill me i get shut, never give it a second chance.

Off to a decent repairer, pay excess get lovely looking car back and trade in for a faster model.

has worked for me in the past.

PS - would advise you get others to drive it when its been repaired to be on the safe side even if its just to the nearest dealer alternatively get it repaired at a dealer then you never need to see it again. If its written off problem solved........

Once its repaired it will be just as good as it was before you crashed it. Dont worry.

How did you manage to get it brand new for £20995?

What a horrible scenario. Even small crashes can be extremely scary and disorientating and a big one like yours can understandably leave you shaken. I'd suggest not making any quick decisions about the future of the car or your driving if you are still feeling shaken up. Some things might help;

1. Remember that it was not your or the car's fault - a freak puncture can happen in any car to anyone
2. Remember how much you loved the car before the accident
3. If the insurance will fix in then you'll still have the great car that you had before (providing the fix is proper)

But the important thing now is to come to terms with the accident itself - the hassle of getting the car fixed/sold etc is minor in comparison. Good luck.

What condition were the rear tyres in tread wise? When did you last check the tyre pressures (assuming that the car hasn't got an inbuilt pressure sensor)?

Hope you are ok must have been very scary.

As long as the the tyres were fine pre-accident then I would guess that there shouldn't be any problems.

You might want to start collecting data on recent car sales similar to yours price wise just incase they think that it is close to be a write off. Second hand market is flat on its arse which won't help in that case.

I take it the insurance wasn't for a guaranteed value?

kt listen please, get your mind off not driving again. Do you know the london area, i was going over the chiswick fly over during the crazy night in 1987 during the famous storm. The wind caught my bonnet which flew open crashed against my windscreen and said bonnet acted like a sail and i went round and round ,couldnt see a thing smashed against the safety rails, how i got out of it i dont know written off. These horrible things happen dont get paranoid that its only you ok? I had to drive the next day and it was ok. you will get over it,you have to get over it,loving thoughts to you Pete

But I just feel so scared of driving, knowing that I could of died along with 3 dear, dear friends.
But you didn't die, so get over it. I'm being deliberately harsh here becuase if you sit there for the next week thinking about how you could have died you'll end up not driving again. You had an accident, and everyone was fine. It's not a big deal. The insurance will fix the car. Everyone is safe. You didnt die, nor did you nearly die. You were driving a modern, well built car with proper safety features. It is not simply luck that ensured you survived.

The police officer said that we are only alive, because of the car we were in, and if it was any other car, they would be picking up 4 dead bodies. Which just completely put me in shock.
It's also a load of cack - he's being ridiculously dramatic. There are many, many cars on the road which you'd have survived the same accident in.

Thank your lucky stars, argue with the insurance company, and look forward to your next drive.

I agree with the posts above. Your not dead, so life goes on. Dont dwell on it. Sorry to hear about your experience and the loss of your car.

Get in a car and get driving as soon as you can. I had a horrible accident a few years ago (it took them an hour to cut me out of the car, I nearly lost a foot and spent three months on crutches) the first think I did when I could drive again was drive back to the junction where the accident happened...

And I agree the copper is talking rubbish..

I agree. The longer you leave it the worse it could get. Go out for a sensible drive tonight, hopefully it will calm your nerves.

You have my deepest and most heartfelt sympathies. I love my beemer and I'd hate for anything like that to happen to me. I'm sorry it's happened to you. Sorry I can't offer any practical advice (the other posters seem to be doing well enough anyway) I just couldn't read this thread and not say something. Actually, I will reiterate what has already been said - Get yourself back on the road before you become used to being someone who doesn't drive anymore.

Take the cash , a repaired car will never be the same. You only lost 5k in 3 years depreciation in this case. I think your insurance company is more worried about how much they would have to pay for your personal injury's

Car is a write-off.

Told by the company today.

Its off to the assesors, who will get back to me within a week with offers.
1. copy as many copies of similar cars as possible from the net to back your claim up, their first offer will be crap and expect to reject it.

2. get in another car and drive, I did and so have many others after a bad prang, don't dwell on something that can happen to anyone, IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT

3. forget that dumb coppers advice, he was totally wrong to say what he did

i wish i was a psycho.wizard so i could help you, just dont know what to suggest im just a humble paramedicfrown Thing is nothings changed out there only your perception of what is out there. What happened to you was always there if you get what i mean, so the reality is, nothings changed.

What can happen is that you can have a big accident and WALK AWAY FROM IT.

GET OVER IT AND GET BACK IN THE CAR.
