emerald ecu to laptop connection

Please can tell me what I am doing wrong.

Trying to connect my laptop to the ecu but cant get a connection.

My lap top only has serial com port so must be using the right one. I am connecting to the ecu vial the port that says coms on the ecu.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I found the laptop and software have to be 'on' when you turned the ignition on ..

I think that is the problem. I was just using a normal serial 9 pin lead and not the emerald one.

Whats the difference ?

They're wired differently.

It even says it in the back of the manual ..

They supplied a lead with my Emerald .. did you not get one ?

no I bought the car with the emerald ecu fitted and no lead

This manual has the wiring info for the lead right at the end.
May not be the ECU model you have but I expect the lead will be the same across the range.

Emerald also sell the lead if you need one - it's not expensive.

I would leave it alone while the car is running, You know what normaly happens with it.

It looks like this will be my last race this year so making a few tweeks . Lets hope it lasts for the 2 days this weekend
